Raymond was born in Rochester, Kent and began his education at Kings School Rochester. He first began drawing at the tender age of five, where at the convent school he was taught and encouraged by the nuns to whom he has been eternally grateful. Whilst at the school he was also a Cathedral Chorister. Later from grammar school he won a scholarship to Twickenham School of Art where he developed his skills of drawing and painting.

On leaving school he started work designing floor coverings. He then spent two years abroad doing his National Service with the Army in the Far East .

He married his wife Iris some forty five years ago and has one daughter, one son and six grandchildren, he has now retired after spending the last 23 years of his working life in the financial field.

Drawing and painting have always been second nature to him, in all mediums but his passion is for Pastels, which he has developed over the years.

Ray is a regular exhibitor at many Art Exhibitions and is a long-term member of Walton Art Club where he has been their Chairman for the past 17 years.
