Joy was born in Bishop Stortford in Hertfordshire, her family moved when she was two years old to Heston in Middlesex where she was brought up. Whilst at school she always enjoyed Art, and went on to take her “O” level, and “A” level in this subject.
Eventually she married and moved to Surrey where she went on to raise a family of five children. Whilst bringing up the children Joy still found time to continue to draw and paint.
Occasionally she managed to find time to attend art classes, but is mainly self -taught.
Over the years she has sold several paintings, the most notable of which was bought for the collection of Elmbridge Museums “Endangered buildings in Molesey”. Joy is currently Secretary of the Walton Art Club.
Acrylics and mixed media are her preferred mediums, but she also enjoys working in watercolour. Her favourite places to visit in the whole world are Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, where she often spends her holidays. Many of her recent paintings are influenced by her visits here.
The contemporary Cornish artists, Kurt Jackson, Amanda Hoskin, Paul Lewin and Paul Wadsworth are her favourites.
Her other interests include altered art, and sketchbook journaling.
