"It was a really hard choice to come up with a Top Ten as every one was a masterpiece in their own way and each artist had obviously put in a lot of effort to create such good work. I have a great love of Cornwall and the sea and thought that Joy Martins work encapsulated the feel of light, space and the rugged but beautiful nature of the two and so got my vote for top three. Barbara's Cyprus boats reminds me of so many Greek holidays in the sun. Roy's Nuthatch could be outside my window now...superb. The colours on Dave's Kingfisher bring the bird to life and Pam's leopard could almost be next to me. Finally Betty's Daffodils and what better way to finish a Top Ten than with the flower that to me heralds the start of warmer weather and Betty's painting fills me with that warmth every time I look at it." "Being keen on Cornwall too, I had to choose Alan's "Last Surf" and I love "Ebb Tide" as well, as it really captures Cornwall. The River Thames one reminds me of lazy summer days strolling by the river.
Barbara's "Cyprus Boats" is lovely, and Alan's "Tennyson Down Isle of Wight" is so fresh and summery, and cheers me up.
I love Julie's "Blue Delphiniums" as Delphiniums are one of my favourite flowers. Pam's "Leopard" is amazing and very lifelike.
Alan's Solent painting is one I like too, and his "Autumn Woodland" looks just like a place I have been to in the Surrey Hills. He is great at capturing the essence of a place. Barbara's "Champion Arab" is a very good example of how good she is at animal portraits." Joy Martin November 04, 2007 6:45 PM
