Educated at Strode’s Boy School in Egham, left at the tender age of 17 hoping to take up a 7 year apprenticeship in Commercial Art, unfortunately due to conscription and the Suez crisis at the time this never materialized ,so spent the next 16 or so years in Banking. Opted out following the merger of two of the Big 5 Banks in the early 70’s. After trying a couple of jobs for a short time eventually went into interior decorating work.
In 1978 was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and by the early 90’s once again had to change course of employment. It was during the recuperation period, following two major joint replacement operations, and whilst watching Alwyn Crawshaw painting in the “A Brush with Art” series on TV, that the thought of taking up Art again awakened.
Shortly after finding some employment with a small photo copying firm and joining the Walton Art Club ,things began to take off again, albeit being interrupted on occasions with a further five replacement operations.
Basically self taught, gaining knowledge by reading, watching and learning BUT most of all practicing by Sketching ,Drawing, and Painting whenever possible.
In 1992, voted on to The club’s committee as Programme Secretary, a position held to this day.
1994 saw him win “The Rowney Pallette” following the success of selling two frames pictures during the preview night at the annual Exhibition. Has since sold a number of paintings and drawings and cards but most of all enjoys what he does and gives encouragement to anyone who wishes to have a go.
